My Back Hurts Before the Workday Even Starts

I am twenty nine and work as an officer at a bank in Dhaka. My chair is where most of my day goes. For a long while my lower back ached only by evening. Then the pain began staying through the night. Now it greets me in the morning before I even leave for work. My doctor examined me and heard the full story. She sent me for pictures of my lower back before deciding anything further.

The pictures are done, and the waiting has its own weight. I catch myself wondering whether the reading will be rushed. A desk worker like me is easy to dismiss as simple strain. I want the person reading my pictures to look properly, without hurrying to a conclusion. Until the report reaches my doctor, every plan at work and home feels half made.

I had honestly never thought about who reads such pictures. A colleague explained that a radiologist does this work and little else. Curious, I opened the DoctorBD24 directory of doctors in Dhaka and looked at how different kinds of doctors are listed there. That is where my search began. I read the listings to understand the role, not to shop around for a faster answer.

My Back Hurts Before the Workday Even Starts

How a Desk Job Reached My Mornings

At first I blamed the chair and bought a cushion. The ache stayed. Long meetings meant long hours sitting still, and standing up afterwards took a moment of care. My doctor asked about the pain week by week, not just that day. She wanted pictures of my lower back in front of her before choosing the next step. Guessing from symptoms alone did not satisfy her, and honestly it did not satisfy me either.

Two Doctors With Two Different Jobs

The radiologist reading my pictures works in a different room from my doctor, doing different work. She studies the pictures set by set, looking at each part of my lower back in turn. In my case there were no older pictures to compare against. So she reads this fresh set on its own and writes down what she finds. Her report then goes to my doctor, who knows me, my job, and my history. The deciding stays in that second room, with the doctor who examined me.

My Usual Medicines Are Not Part of This

Nothing about my regular medicines changes because pictures were taken. I keep taking them on the schedule my own doctor wrote down for me. The radiologist has no authority over that schedule and would not alter a single dose. Any change, if one is ever needed, comes through my own doctor and her alone.

What I Did With the Directory Afterward

The directory stayed open on my phone for days. I found myself browsing general surgeon listings in Dhaka just to see how another specialty presents its doctors. It was reading, not booking. Comparing the listings side by side showed me how separate these roles really are. Each kind of doctor does one part of the work.

Things I Wanted to Know

Who actually reads the pictures of my back?

A radiologist does. Her whole job is studying pictures like these and writing a clear report for the doctor treating you.

Will the radiologist explain the report to me directly?

Her report is written for your own doctor. That doctor then explains it to you with your history and examination in mind.

Could I be called back for more pictures?

Yes, that can happen. If a part of the first set is unclear, she may ask for more pictures before finishing her report.

Can the radiologist change my medicines?

No. She never touches your medicines. The schedule your own doctor set stays exactly as it is unless that doctor changes it.

Why does my own doctor wait for this report?

She wants the pictures read carefully before deciding. A decision made after the report rests on more than symptoms alone, and she prefers it that way.

If the pain suddenly turns severe, or my leg goes weak, should I wait for the report?

No, go to a hospital the same day. Sudden severe pain, sudden weakness, bleeding, or trouble breathing are not things to sit at home with. The report can wait. You cannot.
