Best Physiotherapist in Sylhet - Book Appointment
The Elbow Stopped Halfway, and It Stayed There
I am fifty-three, and I keep house for my family here in Sylhet. Some months ago I slipped in our courtyard while carrying a bucket of water. I landed on my right arm. The arm healed, but the elbow never came back properly. It will not bend all the way. It will not straighten fully either. My doctor examined it, moved it gently, heard how it happened, and told me to work with a physiotherapist on guided exercises.
My kitchen shows me the problem all day long. I cannot lift my hand to my own ear, and tying my hair means leaning my head down toward the hand. The top shelf needs a stool now, for things everyone else reaches without thinking. Wringing out a wet sari takes two attempts, because the last part of the twist needs a straight arm. Even stirring a big pot feels clumsy when the elbow gives up halfway.
I had never gone looking for help like this. My daughter-in-law asked around the neighbourhood first. Then one evening she sat beside me and opened the Sylhet listings of doctors on DoctorBD24. We went through the names together, slowly. I was searching for someone whose everyday work is movement and exercise, the way my doctor had explained it. That evening is where my search really began.

The Elbow Stopped Halfway, and It Stayed There
First she watched what the elbow could already do
At my first session there were no exercises at all. She asked me to touch my shoulder, reach behind my head, then straighten the arm toward a cushion. She noted where each movement stopped and wrote the limits down. Only then did she talk about a programme.
The practice copies my housework
Nothing in my programme feels like a hospital drill. One movement lifts the hand toward my face, the way I eat and wash. Another straightens the arm against light pressure, like pushing a door closed. A third bends the elbow, holding a cloth bundle. When one gets easier, the next step up is small.
Ten quiet minutes, twice a day
Between sessions I practise at home, morning and evening, beside the window. The set is short. On days when visitors fill the house, I do the shorter version and tell her at the next visit. She says the truth helps her more than a perfect report.
Medicines were never part of her work
The medicines my doctor gave me after the fall continue exactly as he set them. The physiotherapist has never added one, stopped one, or moved a timing. She does not discuss them. Prescriptions belong to my doctor. Her room is for movement, only movement.
Word travels back to my doctor
Every few weeks she writes down how far the elbow bends and straightens, and the note goes to the doctor who sent me. If something looked wrong for exercise, she would send me back to him instead of guessing. DoctorBD24 also keeps a general surgeon listing for Sylhet, as a separate directory. Mine stays with guided exercise and review.
Will my elbow bend fully again one day?
She will not promise that. We follow the measurements from each visit. The bend is a little more than when I started. The straightening is slower. She works on both, without dates.
Can I keep doing my housework alongside this?
I do, with small changes. The heaviest wringing is shared for now, and high shelves wait until someone is near. Tell your physiotherapist what your day asks of your arm.
What actually happens inside a session?
Mostly guided movements while she watches and corrects me. We repeat a movement until my position is right. Some of the work is her hands moving the elbow.
Why does the set of exercises keep changing?
Because the elbow keeps changing. A movement that was hard last month may be the warm-up now. When something stops improving, she changes the approach instead of repeating it.
The elbow aches more after a hard session. Should I worry?
A mild pulling feeling settles on its own. I tell her at the next visit, and she adjusts the work. An ache that keeps growing, or swelling that stays, goes back to my doctor.
What sudden trouble means hospital today, not the next session?
Weakness suddenly appearing down one side of your body means hospital the same day. Losing control of your urine or stool is another sign. And if a fall leaves a hand or a leg unable to move, that is hospital, straight away. Severe pain with fever, chest pain, or struggling to breathe cannot wait.
