Dr. A M Shamim, a visionary physician-entrepreneur, has been leading Labaid for over 35 years. He has played a significant role in transforming private healthcare in Bangladesh. By creating a quality platform for our own physicians and medical practitioners, Labaid has been instrumental in changing public perception. Today, people believe that complex treatments like transplants and cardiovascular surgeries can achieve excellent outcomes right here in Bangladesh with Bangladeshi doctors.
Labaid has also expanded into various sectors to add value to our community. We’ve set up a pharmaceutical plant to provide quality medicines, established educational institutes to address the shortage of skilled healthcare professionals, built modern homes and infrastructure through Labaid Properties, and created Labaid Agros to supply organic and quality foods to our patients and customers.

Our History
Labaid\\’s journey began in 1989. Dr. A M Shamim recalls, “When we started, patients in Dhaka had to wait a week for their results. We wanted to make things easier, so we created a one-stop center for doctors, diagnostics, and pharmacies.” This idea has proven successful, leading to the establishment of 30 Labaid Diagnostic Centers across the country, with more in the pipeline.
For over three decades, Dr. Shamim and his team have focused on finding sustainable ways to improve Bangladesh\\’s healthcare system. “We’re always looking for areas where solutions are needed,” he says. Our pioneering spirit has driven us to diversify our services. In 2004, we opened the Labaid Cardiac Hospital, eliminating the need for many Bangladeshis to seek treatment abroad. This was followed by the Labaid Specialized Hospital in 2006, the first multi-disciplinary super-specialty corporate hospital, and then the Labaid Cancer Hospital. The Labaid Specialized Hospital is a shining example of how state-of-the-art technology and efficient IT systems can work together for better healthcare.
We understand that cutting-edge technology requires skilled staff, which is why we’ve established three educational institutions: the State University of Bangladesh (2002), the Bangladesh Institute of Medical and Dental Technology (1996) – the first of its kind in the country, and the State College of Health Science (2006). These institutes train health professionals, nurses, paramedics, physiotherapists, and dental technicians to meet the growing demand in our medical facilities.
To tackle the issue of counterfeit medicines, Labaid has built its own pharmaceutical manufacturing plant and actively monitors the supply chain. “We want to provide the best possible medicines to our patients, so we invested in a top-notch factory and quality raw materials,” Dr. Shamim explains. We\\’ve also opened 25 Labaid Pharmacies nationwide to ensure safe access to medicines for consumers. Our practices aim to inspire 150,000 pharmacies to maintain high standards.
Labaid Agros, established in 2004, provides fresh and organic food, while Labaid Properties Ltd, founded in 1995, ensures reliable housing and infrastructure for people.
Looking ahead, Dr. Shamim envisions myhealth.com, an Amazon-style platform for the entire healthcare sector. “This will create a network of hospitals, diagnostic centers, and pharmacies for easy access to healthcare services,” he shares.
