Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College & Hospital
Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical Hospital is located in the heart of Sylhet division, near the banks of the Surma River in the north-eastern part of Bangladesh. The hospital serves a population of approximately 9 million people in Sylhet division. The city of Sylhet, known as the spiritual capital of Bangladesh, is renowned for its scenic beauty, lush tea gardens, and natural attractions. Popular spots like Madhabkunda, the largest natural waterfall in the country, Jaflong, with its stunning natural stone collection sites, and the picturesque tea gardens, draw both tourists and locals alike for relaxation and cultural enjoyment.
Sylhet is also home to significant religious landmarks, such as the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (R.) and Hazrat Shahparan (R.), which attract visitors from across the globe. Originally established as an institute hospital in 1936, the hospital became a medical school in 1948, and in 1962 it was upgraded to a full-fledged medical college hospital at its former site. In 1978, the hospital moved to its current location, and in 1986, it was renamed Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital in honour of General MAG Osmani, a liberation war hero and the then Chief of Armed Forces, who was born in this region.
