About the hospital

Square Hospital Ltd is a private tertiary-care hospital at 18/F, Bir Uttam Qazi Nuruzzaman Sarak, West Panthapath, Dhaka 1215. It opened on 16 December 2006 as the healthcare venture of Square Group, founded by Samson H. Chowdhury. More than 3,000 staff work across the campus, which serves patients from Dhaka and from other parts of the country.

The campus consists of three buildings on either side of Panthapath, linked by overbridges. The main hospital building rises 18 stories over roughly 450,000 square feet, while the two extension wings hold further wards, clinics and support services. All facilities were built to US fire and building safety standards, according to the hospital.

Services and departments

Medical and surgical departments work within the same campus. Medical services include cardiology and interventional cardiology, neurology, gastroenterology, nephrology, endocrinology, haematology and pulmonary medicine. Paediatrics and neonatology and oncology are also part of the medical service structure.

Surgical services cover general surgery, cardiac surgery, neurosurgery and orthopaedic and joint surgery. Colorectal surgery, urology, obstetrics and gynaecology, ophthalmology and ENT are also available. Dental and maxillofacial surgery completes the surgical list given by the hospital.

The diagnostic wing includes a modern laboratory and a blood bank with component preparation facilities. CT and MRI imaging are available, and radiology works through a PACS-based network. Critical care units form a defined part of the hospital, covering coronary care, general intensive care and neonatal and paediatric intensive care. A cardiothoracic intensive care unit and a neuro-intensive care unit are also listed. These units are staffed around the clock by consultants, specialists and resident medical officers.

The hospital records affiliate partnerships with Methodist Healthcare in Memphis, Tennessee in the USA, Christian Medical College Vellore in India, and SingHealth and Raffles Hospital in Singapore. Its team includes local consultants alongside non-resident Bangladeshi physicians trained in the USA, the UK and the Middle East. Vellore physicians and nurse educators from Australia, the UK, India and the Philippines also serve here.

Outpatient services

The outpatient department is open every day except Friday, with morning, afternoon and late-evening sessions. Consultants and associate consultants see patients in the outpatient clinics as well as on the wards. First-time patients should bring previous prescriptions, test reports and imaging records where available, plus a valid identity document.

Emergency care

The emergency department operates 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Ground ambulance transport is available. Helicopter air-ambulance transfer is also provided for critical cases, using the rooftop helipad.
