National Institute of Cancer Research & Hospital
The National Institute of Cancer Research & Hospital (NICRH) provides a vibrant and supportive environment, staffed by highly trained professionals dedicated to managing cancer patients, education, and research. It is the only tertiary-level center in the country offering multidisciplinary cancer care.
NICRH began its journey in 1982 in a tin-shade building at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. In 1986, it was moved to its current location in Mohakhali. Through a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Health and the Rotary Club of Dhaka, the Rotary Cancer Detection Unit (RCDU) was established, and the institute initially functioned as an outdoor cancer detection unit. In 1991, the institute added 50 indoor beds, and in 1994, it was officially renamed the National Institute of Cancer Research & Hospital (NICRH). The first radiation treatment was delivered in 1995 using a Cobalt 60 Teletherapy machine.
With support from the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), the institute was upgraded to a 300-bed hospital, completing this expansion in 2015. Today, NICRH is a leading center for cancer treatment and research in Bangladesh.
