Khulna Medical College & Hospital

Khulna Medical College (KMC), established in 1990, is a prominent medical institution in Bangladesh, housing the Khulna Medical College and Hospital, also known as the “250-bed hospital.” Located at the entrance to the city, near the Khulna inter-district bus stand, this college has made remarkable progress in medical education since its inception.

Originally known as the 250-bed hospital before 1989, the idea to establish a medical college took shape in the same year, leading to the formation of KMC. Though it started with limited infrastructure and a small group of students, the institution quickly grew and began offering undergraduate training, along with Post Graduate Training (PGT) in its hospital.

Today, KMC is affiliated with Rajshahi University and is one of the nine government and private medical colleges under its banner. Upon completing the 5-year MBBS program and passing the final professional exam, students receive their MBBS degree from Rajshahi University. The college operates under the governance of the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC), which is affiliated with the Ministry of Health. Professional examinations are conducted under the University, with regular internal assessments such as card completions and term-end evaluations.

The college boasts modern facilities to support both education and training. The academic building, located next to the hospital building, is a four-story structure that houses the administrative and academic sections. All the essential departments, including offices, student sections, and principal offices, are located here. There are classrooms, galleries, a library, and an audio-visual unit for educational purposes, as well as four large galleries for combined classes.

To accommodate students, KMC provides six hostels: two for boys, one for girls, and three for intern doctors. The girls’ hostel and one of the boys’ hostels are four-storied. Additionally, there are staff quarters for both the college and hospital personnel within the campus.
