Hypertension & Research Centre, Rangpur (HTN&RCR) is a sister concern of Dr. Wasim-Waleda Bahumukhi Kallayan Foundation, founded by Professor Dr. Md. Zakir Hossain, a distinguished medical professional with notable credentials. Established on November 14, 2008, the center focuses on the research, prevention, and treatment of Hypertension and Diabetes Mellitus, primarily through social mobilization and awareness-building activities.

Vision and Mission:

• Vision: To improve the health and well-being of populations by eradicating preventable tragedies associated with non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as Hypertension and Diabetes, ensuring that no one remains untreated.
• Mission: To conduct research, provide affordable healthcare services, and promote awareness of NCDs through community-based efforts, aiming to reduce morbidity, mortality, and the negative effects of these diseases.

Objectives:

• Popularize HTN&RCR as a unique and desired service center.
• Reduce the major risk factors of cardiovascular diseases, particularly Hypertension and Diabetes.
• Foster healthcare-seeking behavior through social mobilization and awareness-building activities.
• Provide cost-free detection and affordable treatment for NCD patients.

Justification for Establishment:
Hypertension, a major public health problem affecting millions worldwide, is particularly prevalent in Bangladesh, with alarming statistics showing a significant number of cases in the Rangpur district. The HTN&RCR aims to address this issue by offering early detection, comprehensive care, and patient education, promoting a holistic approach to treatment.

Challenges and Humanitarian Journey:
The establishment of HTN&RCR is a humanitarian initiative aimed at providing relief to those suffering from Hypertension and Diabetes in Bangladesh. It continues to operate with a deep commitment to improving public health.

Prevalence of Hypertension and Diabetes:
Globally, Hypertension is a leading cause of premature death, with over 1.28 billion affected adults. In Bangladesh, the prevalence is concerning, with Rangpur district showing a higher-than-average rate of 33.3%. Hypertension is a leading contributor to stroke, heart disease, and kidney complications.
