Overview
Fin Bangla Paralysed Rehabilitation Center (FBPRC) is a rehabilitation unit for paralysed patients at Lift 9, Plot 15, Block B, Hakim Center, Dhaka. The building stands by Mirpur Road at Kalwalapara, on the Mirpur-1 side of the city, under postcode 1216. The unit works on a day-visit basis, with patients arriving for scheduled sessions and returning home the same day.
Families reach Hakim Center from Gabtoli, Darus Salam, Shyamoli and the wider Mirpur belt. There are no beds, wards or admission arrangements at this unit. Anyone needing inpatient care, surgery or emergency treatment is directed to a full hospital instead.
Services
Rehabilitation here works on the practical losses that follow paralysis, step by step and session by session. Practice may cover sitting balance, standing, walking and using the hands again after a stroke, a spinal injury or nerve damage. Progress is usually slow and is measured in small gains rather than sudden change.
Exercises shown during a session are meant to be repeated at home between visits. Short, regular practice at home usually carries the work further than one long, tiring effort. Any exercise that brings sharp pain, dizziness or unusual breathlessness should be stopped and reported at the next visit.
Specialist consultations
The first appointment starts with the patient's history and papers. Discharge papers from the hospital that treated the original illness or injury should be brought, along with scan films, blood reports and the latest prescription in one folder. The starting date of the paralysis and any change since then should be stated clearly at that first meeting.
Fits, breathing trouble, swallowing problems and recent falls should be mentioned without waiting to be asked. Every medicine taken daily should be named, together with its dose, because that history decides which movements are safe to practise first. New movements, however small, are worth writing down and reporting when the patient returns.
Location and access
Hakim Center is a shared city building with medical tenants on separate floors, and this unit sits at the level signed Lift 9. Most patients coming here cannot manage stairs, so the building lift does most of the work on every visit. Arriving with one attendant who can push the wheelchair and handle doors makes the journey easier.
Extra time should be allowed in case the lift is busy at peak hours, and folding the wheelchair footrests before entering leaves room for other passengers. This centre is sometimes confused with the Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed, known as CRP. That is a separate organisation with its own premises at Savar and elsewhere, and it has no connection with this unit.
