About Us

Overview

Dhaka Dental College Hospital is the hospital of the country's only government dental college. It stands at Dhaka Dental College Hospital, Mirpur 14, Dhaka-1206, Bangladesh, beside the Mirpur 14 crossing. Patients travel here from across Dhaka and beyond the capital.

The college was East Pakistan's first dental college, established in August 1961. The hospital runs 200 beds in a seven-storey building on the campus. Treatment is organised through specialty dental departments.

About the hospital

The college began with six students at Dhaka Medical College in 1961. Teaching later moved onto the roof of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital outpatient building. The present Mirpur buildings were inaugurated in April 1998, and all activities shifted to this campus in March 2000.

The college teaches the five-year BDS course under the University of Dhaka, and postgraduate MS and FCPS training also runs here. BDS students and intern doctors treat many patients under teacher supervision.

Services and departments

Oral and maxillofacial surgery handles impacted teeth, jaw injuries, cysts and tumours of the mouth and face. Conservative dentistry and endodontics looks after fillings and root canal treatment. Prosthodontics provides crowns, bridges and full or partial dentures.

Orthodontics straightens teeth with braces and corrective appliances. Pediatric dentistry treats children, including problems with milk teeth. Periodontology and oral pathology deals with gum disease and the diagnosis of mouth diseases, while medicine and general surgery beds support patients whose treatment needs them.

Diagnostic services

The hospital building houses OPG imaging, which shows the full jaw in one picture, alongside general and dental X-ray services and pathological tests.

Having imaging and tests on the campus saves patients a separate trip to an outside diagnostic centre. Earlier X-rays or reports from previous treatment should be brought to the visit.

Appointment information

Outpatient services run from Saturday to Thursday, 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The hospital works mainly on walk-in registration in the morning. Well over a thousand patients attend on a busy day, so an early arrival gives a better place in the queue.

Registration staff direct each patient to the department matching the problem, and treatments such as a crown, a denture or braces need several visits spread over weeks. Follow-up dates are given by the treating department and should be kept safely.

Location and access

The campus address is Dhaka Dental College Hospital, Mirpur 14, Dhaka-1206, Bangladesh. A blue signboard marks the entrance near the crossing, and buses and rickshaws for Mirpur 14 stop close to the gate.

Patients referred from district hospitals for mouth and jaw surgery also attend here and should carry the referral letter when one has been issued.
