Uttara Adhunik Medical College & Hospital
Back in 1984, when government medical services had a monopoly in Bangladesh, a group of visionary leaders saw the untapped potential of private medical education. They took it upon themselves to bring about a change and founded the Bangladesh Medical Studies Research Institute (BMSRI). Their hard work and dedication led to the creation of Bangladesh Medical College (BMC), the country’s first private medical college, which became a turning point in the history of private medical education in Bangladesh. Since then, BMSRI has continued to play a vital role in opening up new opportunities for healthcare workers and physicians in the private sector. Uttara Adhunik Medical College & Hospital is one of the latest successful institutions to have grown under the umbrella of BMSRI.
With strong leadership, BMSRI ensured the growth of Bangladesh Medical College, which later expanded into the development of a large hospital complex in Uttara, known as Uttara Adhunik Hospital. The hospital first opened its outdoor services on March 12, 2003, and indoor services began on March 10, 2005. Today, the hospital has a capacity of 500 beds and is fully registered with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Bangladesh.
In 2007, BMSRI took another important step by launching Uttara Adhunik Medical College (UAMC), which opened its doors on January 22, 2008, with 50 students. Over the years, the college has experienced tremendous growth and is now recognized as a top institution for medical education. From the very beginning, UAMC has been affiliated with Dhaka University, further strengthening its reputation as a place of excellence. Both the hospital and medical college take pride in their highly experienced staff and faculty, many of whom have decades of experience in both private and government healthcare sectors. The commitment of the entire team at UAMC&H has made the institution what it is today—a true center of excellence in Bangladesh’s private medical sector, achieving remarkable success in a relatively short time.
